The Love of Wisdom
$29.99
Scripture says that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” And we know that wisdom is much needed in our day and age as we face unparalleled challenges in our contemporary culture—challenges to the truth and relevance of the Christian faith, as
well as the societal challenges facing us all in the fields of politics, bioethics, education, and so much more. The wisdom we need is to be found, of course, in the Word of God. Yet Christians often are unprepared to take the wisdom of God’s Word and use it effectively in addressing the needs and concerns of the society at large.
In the past, one of the tools that Christians have utilized to bridge the gap between Christ and culture is the discipline of philosophy, called “the handmaid of theology” in the Middle Ages.
The word philosophy comes from Greek roots and means “the love of wisdom.” It involves the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom at the most fundamental level, asking questions like, “What is real?,” “How do we know?,” “What is the nature of human beings?,” “What is right and wrong?,” “How should I live?”
Steve Cowan and James Spiegel are pleased to make available to you their new text, The Love of Wisdom: A Christian Introduction to Philosophy, a book designed to introduce philosophy to the Christian community in an accessible and exciting way. In its pages
you will find tools to help you acquire and communicate the wisdom of God that we need to impact the world for the cause of Christ.
